This gallery

A record of how this gallery was fact-checked and extended with AI agents, in October 2026.

Chart of five rooms on an axis from 1900 to 1990. For each, a dashed outline shows the dates before the fact-check and a solid bar in the room's color shows the corrected dates: Suprematism starts in 1913 instead of 1915, Constructivism ends in 1934 instead of the 1930s, Art Deco posters start in the 1920s instead of 1925, Psychedelic posters end in 1971 instead of 1969, and Memphis starts in 1980 instead of 1981. Decades are drawn to their last year.

Five dates, corrected, 2026

The gallery opened on 12 October 2026 with thirteen rooms. Two days later its owner asked for an audit, in the first prompt quoted below. Five research agents, running as Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code, checked every room against Wikipedia and at least one museum or reference source. Between them they made 254 tool calls: searches, page reads and edits.

They corrected five timeline dates, shown above. They removed a story about the Futurists that no source supported, and corrected the label of a Richard Hamilton painting using Tate's conservation report. Every room gained a list of its sources.

The same afternoon two more agents added the Cubism and Bauhaus rooms in 144 tool calls, checking each image's license and each label against its museum record. The computing wing was then designed in conversation and built the same way.

What changed

  • A one-sentence request became hundreds of searches, page reads and edits

  • Every claim now carries a source a reader can follow

  • Image licenses were checked through the Wikimedia Commons API, not assumed

  • The owner's decisions are on the record, as the prompts quoted here

More works

  • I feel like some of the gallery copy and timeline is wrong. Can we do an audit and double-check this against sources like Wikipedia or something so that we can base it on fact? It might be worth including some sort of sources component.

  • why were those particular trends chosen? For example, Orphism is a relatively obscure movement and an off-shoot of Cubism. Same with De Stijl. Why is there not a room for Cubism?

  • What I'm thinking would be cool is if we evolved this timeline into computers, specifically the first PC, the first Mac. …

I think the overall vision here is that AI is to programming what photography is to impressionist painting (which I'm not sure we have a section for).

What to borrow

  1. 01

Ask for the standard, not the steps. "Base it on fact" set a stricter process than a checklist would have.

  2. 02

Show your sources. A short list at the end of a page lets readers check your work.

  3. 03

Turn the rule into a check. The gallery's build now fails a room with no sources, so the standard outlasts the session.
